mantra makes an entry to finnish proform series with his raw and uncompromised four track acid ep called “the abyss”. after releases on bunker records, polybius trax, solar one music and abstract acid under the mantra alias craig stainton delivers four tracks of jackin pure acid techno madness in the veins of true underground. starting with “next culture” is a good introduction to pumping beats and a moaning 303 while “beat methods” takes a rougher and tougher angle to acid. just imagine yourself in a warehouse party in the morning jammin to some acid. on the b-side “the abyss” leads us to the deep end of the 303 or even to the bottom of the acid sea. “singularity” ends this package with great 303 lines definitely burning up the house! a limited and numbered edition of 200, after that it’s gone, no represses, no digital, so you know what to do!

following previous appearances on station shiva and discos pandemicos, estrato aurora makes his first appearance on bliq with some advanced deep techno immersions that match the profile of the label perfectly. ursus dolinensis takes a slow ride into submission, placing all the emphasis on the low end and using subtle background frequencies to shape out the atmosphere. lunanosorex takes a particularly tripped out approach to electro, while glyphodon adds a little industrial bite into the machine funk framework without losing that steely atmosphere that makes the whole ep so appealing. leonids remix of ursus dolnensis is the perfect complementary addition to the ep the dolly and sistrum artist adds his own rugged deep techno machinations to the track to deadly, understated effect.

the olympos series paused briefly, but now makes a welcome return thanks to the efforts of hermes, the messenger of the gods. whether he produced the tracks himself or they were ghostwritten is unclear, but they re a fantastic addition to the greek mythology focused minimal electronica label. astraia is a twinkling delight of mournful deep techno, while eidolon heads into introspective minimal electro territory with some seriously crafty beat programming. stasis meanwhile strikes a warm, laid back note that harks back to early uk techno might the track title be a tribute? the record closes out on phone, a grainy, sullen jam with some crunchy broken beats and plenty of needlepoint sound design going on.

this is a reissue of a short-lived and obscure uk dance music label. a compilation of tracks featured on releases across 3 ep’s between 1991 and 1993 incorporating recently emergent dub techno and progressive acid house sounds. nation of noise was conceived in the early 90 s, following a meeting of minds between the producer and ambient soho mainstay django, and vocalist jon martin (of pizzaman fame) at the legendary soho institution: the brain. plate 1 is a fully remastered reissue of the first nation of noise record - xes noiz, featuring 4 locked grooves. plate 2 takes two tracks off both the lockgroove and super bubble ep s. one side is smooth, after-hours deep house whilst the other reaches for two progressive, acid cuts. fully remastered.

if there s one thing wolf music know a thing or two about, it s house music. so its no surprise then that they ve decided to reissue a golden 2003 deep house nugget in the form of brs (british rhythm services) spring dom. reissued from the original dat tapes spring dom is one of those timeless records that even 15 years on sounds as soulful as it did when it first hit the racks. echoed sweeping stabs, chunky drum loops and powerful synth flurries alongside those mesmerising vocal refrains, all tied together with a driving bassline - this is deep, deep goodness of the highest degree. reworking spring dom for the present day, wolf mainstay medlar provides a rave tinged remix, chopping the vocals and reworking the synth lines to give it a peak time, dancefloor demeanour. the flip houses the other two tracks from the original 03 release - clubtronic with it s ukg flavoured beat, m1 pads and jazzy free flowing melodies and miss you combining a bumping groove, dynamic bass melody and stirring rhodes chords. a much-welcomed reissue package from the wolf camp and a chance to own this house treasure without feeding the sharks.

super deep african / new age / minimalistic / ambient crossover from cabo verde - not the typical record, a beautiful listening experience check! originally conceived as a book of 6 poems that developed into a record released independently in 1986, universo da ilha sits at the cross-section of many different genres. connecting contemporary new age and ambient minimalist movements with traditional west african and cape verdean elements from the past (griot voices, djembe rhythms, melancholic morna), vasco constructed his own universe where, in spite of the isolation of the island at the time, he transcended barriers and created a global record that was ahead of its time vasco used his own synths and drum machines, and with the help of a small group of friends (tey gonçalves on percussion, neney’s amazing griot voice, luis morais on sax and flute), he recorded this not-balearic-but-atlantic ambient odyssey on a 16-channel peavey mixer directly to an akai tape recorder without overdubs.

simbad teams up with south african vocalist brian temba, whose previous release together come join in dropped on hi:rise back in 2011. in it’s original form take my hand is a sublime, forward-looking deep and soulful house track based around a filtering symphonic string loop, low-slung groove and heart-felt vocal. simbad has created a very london-centric vibe but with a french touch and detroit sensibilities, drawing from house heroes such as parrish and bradock, joining the dots and creating a fresh masterpiece in the process. next up we have jimpster on the remix, picking up the bpm’s slightly and loading up on his trademark deep stabs, sub-bass and spacious fx adding just enough dance-floor bump whilst leaving the vocal placed firmly at the core. on the flip side we have two smbd zulu edits which replace the more spartan groove of the original with some driving afro percussion. the first version keeps the vocal intact, the second version goes balls deep into dub territory, closing out this amazing release with an instrumental pushing the strings and hypnotic groove front and centre

currently fizzing up summer crowds on his european tour, the argentinian renaissance man is testing his wares, as he prepares to unveil his third artist album at the turn of 2019. set for release on the martinez brothers perennial cuttin headz imprint, it will herald a fresh jacking chapter for the artist who famously refuses to sit still. an instant statement of intent, ‘so dope’, the first taster from the forthcoming long-player, lives up to its name with a thumping nyc swing, loose twanging slap-bass pops, trippy vox overlays, springy rhythmic elements and all essential conga rolls. with its concrete-thick groove, ‘so dope’ commands an equally robust remixer rollcall. which is exactly what the martinez brothers have recruited... the bossmen themselves get elbow deep with a warped and twisted bassline that snakes around the stately jacking beat, gradually becoming more warped and wonderful as the track progresses. djebali follows with a precision contrast as the vocal shots wrap themselves tightly around a timeless 909 beat and subtle tracks of venomous acid while heartthrob flips it into an all-out rolling techno experience. dope ain’t the word.

making his return to the label after last year s springtime favorite, everlast, is dorsi plantar. better listen s twelfth entry in the main run marks their first repeat of an artist, and the copenhagen man does not disappoint. tack farsan is a balanced sample-driven ep intended to milk the last of summer s flavors for the dancefloors enjoyment. the top side hosts sunny disco affairs in the release s title track, and a polished collab with label mate sune. the logo side, on the other hand, explodes into deep latin affairs.

kicking off the first of two tracks by sondrio night train is smooth and subtle, this melodic low slung groover is made for those warm summer days. the deep tones give the low end just enough attitude to get those boots knocking. give it like is punchy and upbeat, sondrio gives you a dance floor weapon that ll have the punters up in arms. his signature low end notes drive this record with vocal stabs that will fit in any set. first up on b side ant larock drops another groovy house number better think with a mesmerising vocal laid on top of nothing but luscious chords. summer needs records like this, it s what memories are made of. ant also delivers pleasure that feels like a good dj tool perfect to break up those disco vocals with choppy chords, swinging drums and a cheeky vocal to match. house music at its finest.

for our second release of 2018 ears have eyes are back with the third instalment of our throng of orbs compilation series. this time around we welcome back old friends, and bring in some new names to the ehe fold, with a collection of tracks spanning deep emotive house music, broken beats and acid dancefloor pressure. first up we have contours, who burst onto the scene in 2015 with an excellent release on the mighty rhythm section, and has put out a slew of great records since then. dither takes time to unfold, but when the fluid acid line emerges from the heady percussion he really sets up the track for dancefloor perfection. for the a2 we welcome back chocky to the label, and he serves up a slice of weighty house music that drips quality and emotion. pickle dat kicks off with an absolute beauty of a groove, understated but weighty, and from there chocky goes on to sprinkle just the right amount of seasoning, with soulful rhodes licks and a wonderful bass line. off the back of their excellent 12- on love on the rocks, elles x violet kick off the b side with yrnyb, a tried and tested dancefloor destroyer. when we heard elles playing this in a dark basement in peckham, we just had to sign it. sometimes a kick drum, an acid line and a half heard vocal is all you need. finishing off the release we have dublin artist replete serving up a lovely slice of hazy, percussive house music that slowly builds to a crescendo. an acidic bassline sits nicely over congas and a warm, rounded kick drum.

hailing from the rhythm plate multiverse, pressed for time is one of the many outposts carrying the work of matlock s finest house music protagonists. reaching beyond the regular roster of goshawk, yse and the full-blown plate, this latest transmission calls on deep cover uk house crew brs, also known as british rhythm services, who step up with some crucial workouts for sophisticated dancefloors. the quartet of ben vecara, rob evans, steve wilson & dom thompson have a sizable legacy behind them, not least from the early 00s when they were regularly rolling out releases for the likes of 20:20 vision, cyclo and friends & families. after a quiet patch their return is marked out by a broad spectrum of deep house delights locked onto the kind of shuffled grooves that rhythm plate heads should be more than happy with, and plenty of loose, live-sounding keys to boot.

shot at dawn is a scintillating return for a band who have been collectively quiet (but individually busy) for a few years, and (once again) sounds like the music of tomorrow. lyricist leon mayes wills the real revolution to come, morris’s uneasy keys and driving, bittersweet production embodies the uk s collective anxiety/apathy coupled with an impending sense of doom, as we all obediently troop off the cliff like lemmings, while vocalist michelle manetti s melancholy delivery is the perfect foil both, recalling tracey thorn at her best.

2lp , full sleeve, as always with hell yeah, the next release comes from an artist label boss marco fell utterly in love with before forming a close musical relationship. his name is calm, and this summer he releases his eighth studio album, by your side. it is an effortlessly evocative long player and magical ten track trip into soothing sonic waters, glistening harmonies and horizontal rhythms. calm is legendary japanese artist fukagawa kiyotaka, someone who has been making deep house, ambient and downtempo grooves since the late nighties, and always teasing spine tingling emotions out of his machines. his last album—2015 s from my window—cast a real spell on marco and encouraged him to reach out. the pair eventually hooked up in tokyo and found real musical kinship while playing records together.

luv shack records 26th release marks the return of vienna based artist and label regular lesale. the baguette magique ep packs three punchy original tracks plus a remix by deep disco don and vienna resident roman rauch. first off, there s the original version of baguette magique , an uplifting dance opus carried by a tantalising disco sample, a plethora of bleeps and synthetic patterns, evolving into a cosmic, almost-techno piece in the second half. roman rauch s remix takes out the tempo and the quirkiness of baguette magique , instead opting for a laid back 80s tropical groove, turning the original theme into an insanely deep and obscure chord sequence. on the flip, lesale takes things to disco territory with percussive drums, a cheeky filtered sample and a hyperactive synth bass sequence on house rules . jungle breeze wraps up the release, offering a hazy mix of deep pads, tribal drums and oddball flute samples.

korpus 9 records kicks off with a brand new ep from dubspeeka, featuring four tracks of high impact and atmospheric techno. korpus 9 records is a brand new techno label from russia managed by kwazalski. the main aim of the label is to release fresh and innovative material, not only digitally, but also on vinyl. all the imagery and influences of the label come from an abandoned research station that is deep underwater, where unusual events are happening around it on a constant basis. charged with the first release is shadowy bristolian producer dubspeeka, who has put out his music on drumcode, senso sounds and get physical, runs skeleton recordings and has a fierce techno sound. the opener here is garrison, a driving number with heavy drums and a warm but edgy mood. garrison 2 is more spaced out, with celestial pads baring a feeling of suspense above the firmly rooted drums. garrison 3 then has lumpy drums that bob up and down, as acid lines, water sounds and metallic hits all add atmosphere to the cavernous groove. last of all, garrison 4 is an eerie dub techno track with real drive but also plenty of thoughtful emotions. it closes out a brilliant first ep on this exciting new label.

french producer lb aka labat returns with a new lp named “fake memories” on his own label alélah records. he surprises us with some more hip-hop and r’n’b music, liberating his love for jazz rythms and harmonics. known for his talent at playing with samples, this new lp expresses his actual potential, offering a large use of instrumental stuff : violin and piano chords, guitar riffs… together with delicate voices that balance with the old school drums and procure gentleness to the sharp hats. the b3 eponymous track even discloses the man’s voice, with lyrics sang by himself

giuliano lomonte is back on his own imprint and straight to the point with tho original cuts. there is no doubt the distinctive bassline on a1 skyline will be stuck in your head long after the record is over and the deep and driving after hour vibes on b1 aquarium will keep the dance floor moving until the lights come on.

as far as i know is the new project by electronic music veteran eduardo de la calle. under this new moniker, eduardo is exploring the roots of detroit electro whilst sticking to his signature sound of trippy melodies and rhythms, which we were able to experience through so many quality releases over the last decades. this first ep by as far as i know, which also includes a collaboration with nathan surreal on b2 (fact speak itself), takes us on a trip back to the future and deep into the realm of sci-fi related electro, idm, and techno. pressed on 180g hand-stamped quality wax.
